Description

Black Walnut Trees (Juglans nigra)

Capable of growing up to 30-40m tall, the black walnut produces edible nuts. In autumn the leaves take on an amazing golden hue.

Timber from the black walnut is very attractive and very valuable. It is a strong and naturally durable wood, and the heartwood shows desirable mottled effects. It polishes to a high shine and is therefore used by craftsmen around the world for high-end furniture and ornaments.

Collect the nuts whilst the casing is still green to avoid the nut taking on a bitter taste. Best left to dry out before eating.

The squirrels and birds benefit from these trees.

The black walnut is relatively late into leaf, preferring to wait until the soil has warmed before emerging, so do not panic if your tree is looking a little bare when everything else is springing to life!

Supplied trees are between 1.5-2.5ft tall. Branches will be trimmed and trees supplied bare root for safe shipping.
