Description
Dawn Redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides)
A living fossil, these species of tree were growing over 20 million years ago. In 1941 it was thought that they had become extinct, but thanks to a team of botanists who were sent on a mission to China during the second world war, the seeds of the last remaining trees were collected and returned to an arboretum in America. There they shared the seeds to other institutes and botanists around the world.
These incredible specimens need space to grow and would sit well in an estate garden, parkland or rural setting.
