Ginkgo biloba is a large, slow growing, deciduous tree which has a narrow habit and grows up to 30m. It has a resistance to pests, diseases, pollution and many soil conditions making it an excellent specimen for urban planting. When the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, six Ginkgo trees growing within 2km survived. Although slightly burnt, they recovered quite quickly and are still alive today.

GINKGO BILOBA / GINGKO (Maidenhair tree)

Ginkgo biloba is a large, slow growing, deciduous tree which has a narrow habit and grows up to 30m. It has a resistance to pests, diseases, pollution and many soil conditions making it an excellent specimen for urban planting. When the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, six Ginkgo trees growing within 2km survived. Although slightly burnt, they recovered quite quickly and are still alive today.

The leaves have a distinctive shape and turn a beautifully, vibrant yellow colour in autumn.

The first maidenhair tree was brought to Britain and planted in Kew Gardens in 1760 where it still stands today!

  • Tolerant of most soil types but prefers a well-drained site
  • Hardy and low maintenance
  • Flowers from April to May, and the seeds ripen from October to November.
  • Reaches to 30m in height by 9m wide at a slow rate.

  • Ideal for bonsai too

The Ginkgo’s are currently around 15cm tall and have been grown here at our nursery in Scotland in root trainers from seed for stronger roots giving them the best start to establishing.
