Description
Hazel Trees (Corylus avellana)
Traditionally used as a coppice tree and as a hedgerow species. Capable of growing into a shrubby, multi-stemmed tree of up to 8m, the hazel is cultivated in many countries for its edible nuts and its straight-growing poles which are regularly cut and used in traditional hedging techniques.
Nuthatches, the Hazel Dormouse, insects and bumblebees benefit from these trees.
Hazel makes a great addition to a mixed hedgerow, offering edible nuts and benefit to an array of native wildlife.
