Norway Spruce (Picea abies)

Better known as the Christmas tree the Norway Spruce is an evergreen conifer.

The Norway spruce trees provide a habitat for a variety of wildlife, including beetles, weevils and hoverflies. Caterpillars of moths which feed on the foliage include the spruce carpet, cloaked pug, dwarf pug and barred red.

The cones are an important food source for red squirrels.

The the young pine needle shoots can be added to hot water to make a refreshing tea which is reported to be high in vitamin A and helps to keep a healthy immune system.
