Darwin’s Barberry (Berberis darwinii) is a dense, hardy evergreen shrub which produces edible berries which are excellent in jams & preserves.
The foliage is dark green, glossy and holly like with new foliage beginning off red and changing to green as it grows.
The flowers are orange / yellow and attract bees and other pollinators and the dark blue berries are a welcome food source for a variety of birds.
These shrubs can easily be trained into formal hedging or left as a shrub which sits well in borders, providing colour all year round.
